Black Hills Cares

The Black Hills Cares Energy Assistance Program provides funds to help people with their energy bills or emergency energy-related expenses. Black Hills Energy matches customer and employee contributions, dollar-for-dollar.

  • Black Hills Energy makes it easy for you to contribute by including an option to add your contribution directly to your monthly bill. Just mark the checkbox on your payment stub with the amount you would like to contribute.
  • You can make a one-time contribution by mailing a check, money order or cashier's check payable to: Black Hills Cares, PO Box 6006, Rapid City, SD 57709.
  • Black Hills Cares funds go directly to local assistance agencies in your area.
  • Assistance agencies determine individual customer eligibility and distribute funds.
  • Since 2001, the Black Hills Cares program has provided more than $2 million in customer, employee and company funds to assist residents.

Black Hills Cares donations are distributed through state assistance organizations. To find Energy Assistance Agencies in your area, visit the appropriate state assistance page.

LIHEAP

The Federally funded block grant program assists low income households meet their immediate home energy needs. For information on applying for LIHEAP assistance, contact your state LIHEAP agency:

Energy Gift

A practical and convenient gift for any occasion. An Energy Gift is a great way to show someone you care. To present an Black Hills Energy customer with an Energy Gift toward an energy bill payment, complete and submit the request form.

Medically Essential Service Program

This program offers qualifying customers the following:

  • Referrals to social service agencies that provide financial assistance
  • A limited extension of time to pay their bills and
  • Special notification prior to disconnection of service for non-payment, so customers can secure funds or make necessary arrangements.

Additional Help

Black Hills Energy offers energy-efficiency programs, including rebates, energy audits and low-income weatherization programs in some states as another means of helping our customers manage energy costs.
