AMR and AMI
Black Hills Energy is expanding its use of meter-reading technology to deliver increased efficiency and enhanced service to our natural gas and electric customers. The technology works by sending a low-powered radio signal from a transmitter on your meter to Black Hills meter-reading-receiving equipment. The benefits to you include a reduced need for our employees to gain access to your property.
In our natural gas territories, we're expanding our use of Automated Meter Reading within Nebraska, where it has been used for more than 20 years, and introducing it to cities in Colorado, Iowa and Kansas. In our southern Colorado electric territory, where 56,300 meters already feature Advanced Metering Infrastructure, we're adding that technology to an additional 42,000 meters.
For more than 125 years, Black Hills has continued to refine its processes by implementing practical, cost-effective technology to provide customers with safe, reliable energy service at a competitive price. AMR and AMI are two ways we're doing that today.
