Jobs: Black Hills Energy – Colorado Electric and Black Hills Colorado IPP are supporting the community by bringing new jobs to the area.
- More than 400 jobs at the peak of construction
- 15 to 20 permanent highly technical jobs to operate the new generation facilities.
Reliable Fuel Supply: Recent development has found significant additional natural gas reserves which will result in more surety of natural gas supplies nationwide.
State-of-the-art Generation: The new generation being constructed is advanced-technology, highly efficient machines that also have load following capabilities needed to allow for more renewable energy.
Site Economies of Scale: The generation projects are being constructed on a common site. The location of multiple generating units on a common site provides efficiencies and cost savings associated with permitting, construction, transmission access, plant operation and access to natural gas, water and other resources.
Efficient Water Use: The combined generation facilities will have minimal waste of public resources due to project self-sufficiency including no water discharge.
Energy Security: The new resources being constructed will give southern Colorado the security of supply and reduce cost volatility.
Least-Cost Supply Option: The new generation projects will provide the best long-term, least cost option for Black Hills Energy – Colorado Electric’s customers.
Economic Development: This project will provide the least-cost, reliable, state-of-the-art energy supply for years to come in support of Pueblo’s future economic development activity.
