Black Hills Energy filed a rate application with the Nebraska Public Service Commission Dec. 1, 2009, to recover the cost of capital investments the company has made in its Nebraska natural gas distribution systems since July 1, 2006, and increased operating expenses incurred during the same time period.
On Aug. 17, 2010, the Nebraska Public Service Commission issued an order granting Black Hills Energy an $8.659 million or 4.7 percent increase in annual revenue in Nebraska. The company sought a $12.1 million or 6.5 percent increase in annual revenue to recover the cost of $28.8 million in capital investments the company made in its Nebraska natural gas distribution systems since July 1, 2006, and increased operating expenses incurred during the same period.
Even with this increase, Black Hills Energy rates are comparable to other natural gas providers in Nebraska and the improvements Black Hills has made to its Nebraska natural gas distribution systems have been in service for up to four years.
Black Hills is reviewing the commission's order. Customers will be receiving a refund of the difference between final and interim rates, with interest.
