Environmental policy statement

The purpose of the Policy is to set forth Black Hills Corp.’s (the “Company”) policy on protection of the environment.

This Policy applies to all Company employees, and to all contractors and suppliers engaged by the Company following the Effective Date.

1. The Company is committed to providing safe, reliable, and cost-effective energy in a manner that protects the environment and the interests of our stakeholders.

2. This environmental statement is adopted in further support of the environmental compliance and commitments set forth in our Code of Business Conduct. The actions that we take include the following:

   1. We are committed to complying with environmental standards, to providing the resources required to meet our compliance goals and fostering a culture of environmental stewardship.

   2. We are committed to continually using and enhancing our Environmental Management System (EMS) to sustain our goal of zero violations.

   3. We operate in a manner that strives to meet or exceed the requirements set forth in applicable environmental rules and regulations. We operate our systems in a manner that cost-effectively minimizes environmental risks and liabilities.

   4. We are committed to creating a cleaner energy future and working to responsibly reduce greenhouse gas emissions through our goals as outlined in our most recent Sustainability Report.

   5. We train employees to understand environmental compliance requirements related to their job duties.

   6. We provide regular reports to Senior Management and our Board of Directors regarding the status of our environmental compliance, issues, and initiatives.

   7. We provide annual reporting of environmental matters through public disclosures.

   8. We participate in the development of new technologies that support our environmental efforts and provide stakeholder value.

   9. We consult our stakeholders on environmental matters and seek to partner with stakeholders to promote sustainability and environmental stewardship efforts.

   10. We work with public policy makers to provide access to technical, scientific, and economic information to develop public policy that protects the environment as well as our customers’ and shareholders’ interests.

   11. We seek to preserve the biodiversity in our operating areas, conduct environmental impact assessments to consider and minimize impacts to wildlife and habitats, and utilize proper land reclamation practices.

   12. We are committed to the responsible management of solid and hazardous waste by recycling, reusing and reducing our waste.

   13. We work closely with state and federal agencies to comply with environmental laws, regulations and standards.

3. The Company believes responsible and reliable energy delivery requires a commitment to environmental stewardship as well as consideration of customer impacts, shareholder interests, and responsible natural resource development. We employ the proper environmental technologies to meet our customers’ energy needs reliably, responsibly, and cost-effectively.

4. Suppliers and contractors must abide by the letter and the spirit of all federal, state and local environmental laws, as well as applicable Black Hills Corp. policies and procedures, including this Policy.
