Electric meter maintenance
We take pride in providing you safe and reliable service. We'll be working with an approved contactor over the next several months to perform maintenance on your electric meter. There is no charge for this service.
Are you performing maintenance on my electric meter?
If you received an email or a postcard informing you of the meter maintenance process, then yes, our contactors will be on your property to perform electric meter maintenance.
You may have also seen information about the meter maintenance process on social media or on your monthly energy bill. We just wanted to get the word out that we will be in your neighborhood performing meter maintenance.
Who's performing maintenance on the meters?
We're working with an approved contractor, Utility Sales and Services, to perform maintenance on the meters. All contractors will be clearly labeled as such -- they'll carry on them a Black Hills Energy ID and a branded letter stating they're certified.
Where is my electric meter located?
Your electric meter is mounted on the outside of your home and is generally located on the side of your home toward the front of the side wall. It’s important that our contractors have easy access to your electric meter. A typical electric meter is pictured below.

No, you do not need to be home. Please make sure we have access to your electric meter, though.

There is no action needed on your part prior to meter maintenance. However, some customers may experience a brief, momentary outage during the maintenance process. As a general rule, we recommend protecting appliances by plugging sensitive electronic equipment into surge protecting power strips.
