- Angel Tree employee donations: $5,160
- Number of shopping carts full of toys: 9-plus
- Providing Christmas gifts to all 465 General Beadle Elementary students: Priceless
A week before the Christmas break, Black Hills Energy employees delivered the donation to the school.
Members of school’s student council enthusiastically accepted the donation, saying it was “pretty awesome.”
In the last days before Christmas break, all students were given the opportunity to “shop” in the school Christmas store. Each child was provided with a ticket to exchange for a single item. The store was stocked with personal care items, sleeping bags, balls, games, hair and jewelry accessories, Legos, books, puzzles and more.
Students were quick and decisive in their selection. Many of the hot items (basketballs, slime, Hello Kitty kits) flew off the tables. Teachers even made an emergency run to restock some of the popular gifts.
In general, students picked out gifts for themselves, but a few tender souls used the opportunity to grab a gift for their siblings. One little boy innocently inquired if he should give the gift to his parents, so that they could wrap it and then give it to him as a gift. A few boys with worn sweatshirts went straight for the new school sweatshirts and put them on immediately with pride.
As the students lined up before each shopping trip, you could feel the excitement brewing.

Thank you to everyone who donated to this year’s Angel Tree!
