LINCOLN, Neb., Aug. 8, 2019 — Imagine getting an offer to pay the same price per gallon of gasoline for a year every time you filled up your tank. No matter how much oil prices changed, you’d pay the same amount for that gallon of gasoline.
Black Hills Energy is offering select customers in eastern Nebraska a similar opportunity through their Annual Price Option (APO) program. Through the program, customers can lock in the per-therm price of natural gas for one year.
Residential customers can enroll in the Annual Price Option beginning Aug. 12 at by calling 800-753-7509 between 8 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Enrollment ends Oct. 4 or when 10,000 customers have enrolled. The locked-in commodity price will be in effect from Nov. 1, 2019, through Oct. 31, 2020. “This program is a great option for customers who keep a close eye on their budget and are concerned about winter heating bills,” said Kevin Jarosz, Black Hills Energy business operations director. “Just like any commodity, demand influences the market price for natural gas. By signing up for the Annual Price Option, you’ll know what price you’ll pay, regardless of what the market does”.
Customers’ bills can still change, based on the weather, how much natural gas they use, the efficiency of their natural gas appliances and how well their home is weatherized.
The Annual Price Option isn’t available to former SourceGas customers. These customers can enroll in the Choice Gas program each spring.
Customers who don’t want to participate in APO will continue to be billed using our traditional portfolio rate. The price of traditional billing will fluctuate with market conditions.
Customers who enroll in APO can also choose to sign up for Budget Billing. This option gives customers a stabilized monthly billing, which helps can help them avoid spikes during the peak of heating season.
The 2019 APO Price per therm is $0.43159, slightly higher than the 2018 price of $0.43037.*
