At Black Hills Energy, customer service and safety are our top priorities. Our technicians continue to work hard during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide you with safe and reliable service. Frequently, this requires our employees to enter homes and businesses in order to perform necessary work.

Our technicians are prepared to utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) if the service call or situation warrants this type of precaution. We are taking these steps in order to protect our customers and front-line workers, while also being mindful of the need to ration this important equipment. Black Hills Energy employees throughout our company are carefully following health recommendations provided by the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

SBCA (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus), N-95 Mask, or other approved respirator 

This apparatus is not utilized by our technicians during every customer visit, it is reserved for use in certain circumstances:

  • COVID-19 confirmed entries.
    • SCBA is an option, as are N-95 masks.
  • If there is a quarantined individual at the site where necessary work is being performed. 
    • SCBA or N-95 Mask are both acceptable.

Tyvek/Biohazard suit

This suit is not utilized by our technicians during every customer visit, it is reserved for use in certain circumstances:

  • If there is a known COVID-19 illness at the site where necessary work is being performed.
  • If there is a quarantined individual at the site where necessary work is being performed.
  • Other instances when deemed necessary.

For service calls where there are no known COVID-19 issues, our technicians utilize safety glasses and nitrile gloves and in some cases an N-95 face mask. N-95’s are not used without full PPE, including suit. 

Our technicians continue to practice social distancing and closely follow all national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines regarding COVID-19. 

The decisions regarding the level of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to be used are made by management teams on a case by case basis. 

Black Hills Energy will continue to keep the safety of employees and customers as our top priority.  Black Hills Energy will continue to be mindful regarding the use of this valuable protective equipment.
