Your responsibility for buried piping

We don’t maintain customer-owned buried piping. You should have a qualified professional periodically inspect the buried piping for leaks. If you own buried metallic piping, you also should have a qualified professional periodically inspect it for corrosion.
If you don’t maintain the buried piping, it may be subject to potential hazards of corrosion and leakage. Your buried gas piping should be repaired or replaced if any leaks or unsafe conditions are discovered.
Who can do the maintenance for me?
Any qualified contractor can make repairs and replacements and can perform maintenance. In some cases, we can also do repairs. Proper construction of buried piping is critical for operational safety. Use only approved installation practices and materials.
- Customer-owned piping is the natural gas piping from the outlet of our meter set, and you’re required to maintain it.
- Customer-buried piping to secondary buildings or equipment such as detached garages, workshops, pool heaters or gas grill is considered customer-owned piping too, and you’re required to maintain it.
- We own and maintain the natural gas piping/equipment known as the main, service line and meter set up to the outlet of the meter set.
