Updates to the Iowa Gas Furnace Maintenance Program
Previously, we’ve offered an annual rebate of $50 for a completed furnace inspection. This rebate was designed to help offset annual furnace maintenance expenses.
During every energy efficiency plan year, investor-owned utilities are required to complete an evaluation, monitoring and verification study. In 2017, one of the programs selected for evaluation was the furnace and boiler maintenance program. Part of this study included the furnace maintenance rebate as well as the appropriate amount of energy savings we could claim the maintenance provided. It was determined that savings for the furnace maintenance could only be counted once every two years. Based on this study, it’s necessary to make some changes to this rebate.
Starting with furnace inspections completed after Oct. 1, 2017, our customers will only be eligible to receive the furnace maintenance rebate every other year. So, if a customer received a furnace maintenance rebate in 2016, they’re not eligible for one in 2017 if they’re inspection is completed after Oct. 1.
If you are a Trade Ally, please make sure to discuss this with your customers before completing the inspection. If you would like a list of those customers who had inspections and rebates in 2016-17, please reach out to me.
