We care for our communities through charitable giving, outreach and employee volunteerism as detailed below. In 2017, our community investment totaled over $3.8 million.

We donated $687,000 to local organizations and chambers of commerce working to grow our communities.
$551,000 low-income energy assistance
Black Hills Cares, our energy assistance program, gave $551,000 to help more than 1,900 families in need with energy assistance.
$609,000+ United Way donations
Employees gave over $487,000, plus a 25 percent match from the Black Hills Corporation Foundation, to benefit United Way organizations across seven states.
$106,000 energy saving trees
We invested $106,000 in planting almost 3,400 trees in our communities.
330+ first responders trained for our communities
We hosted 60 trainings benefiting more than 330 first responders.
440+ employees volunteered
More than 440 employees shared their energy with more than 700 community organizations.
250+ homes weatherized
Weatherization efforts benefited more than 250 homeowners in the communities we serve.
$915 million direct economic impact
We make an estimated direct annual impact of approximately $915 million in the communities we serve. This includes franchise fees, contributions, compensation for our more than 2,800 employees, payments to suppliers and property, sales and use taxes paid.
