Energy Saving Trees
Welcome to Energy-Saving Trees! Every year, we offer you one free tree so you can enjoy energy-saving benefits. This program is made possible through a partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation.
Our 2019 Energy-Saving Trees program launches on Monday, April 8.
How it works
If you're one of our customers in Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota or Wyoming, you can reserve one free tree. The video below provides detailed information about what you can expect.
The program helps you determine where to plant a tree on your property for maximum energy savings. The Arbor Day Foundation selects trees species that will thrive in your area.
A 3- to 4-foot-tall dormant trees will be delivered to your front door for spring planting.
Don't forget to call 811 at least two business days before you plan to plant your tree to have underground utility lines marked. It’s free, it’s safe and it’s the law.
A well-placed tree can help your home save energy by providing shade from the hot sun and windbreak from the cold breeze. Trees around your home will not only help reduce the amount of energy your home requires but also add to your property value and provide habitat for local wildlife. Beyond that, they help reduce your carbon footprint, improve air quality, and more effectively catch storm water runoff.
- According to the U.S. Forest Service, properly placing trees around buildings can reduce your air-conditioning needs by 30 percent and can save you 20-50 percent in heating energy.
- The Tree Canada Foundation says one tree provides oxygen for up to four people in one day.
- Trees provide shade and shelter, reducing yearly heating and cooling costs by $2.1 billion in the United States according to the International Society of Arboriculture.
