Black Hills Energy takes pride in providing you safe and reliable natural gas service. We have partnered with Utilitech LLC, an approved utility contractor, over the next several months to perform maintenance on your natural gas meter’s reading equipment. 

This project won’t interrupt your natural gas service and doesn’t require anyone to be home. However, it’s important for our contractors to have safe and easy access to your gas meter. As the work is performed, you may notice them in your area and on your property, but for your assurance, all will carry Black Hills Energy identification.

Frequently asked questions

What are you doing and why?

We‘ll be exchanging your natural gas meter’s Encoder Receiver Transmitter, or ERT, as part of our meter reading equipment maintenance schedule. There is no direct cost associated with the exchange, and natural gas service to your home won’t be interrupted.

How do I schedule my meter read equipment maintenance to make sure my dog is inside or to have my gate unlocked?

We’re not currently scheduling meter reading equipment maintenance as it doesn’t require anyone to be home. If the meter is unavailable at the time Utilitech is there to change the equipment, we’ll leave a door tag with information on how to contact us to schedule access to your natural gas meter for the necessary maintenance to be completed.

Do I have to be home?

You don’t need to be home, but please ensure that we have access to your natural gas meter.

How do I know if the person is a contractor for Black Hills Energy?

All technicians will have a Black Hills Energy badge, wear a Black Hills Energy safety vest, and a Black Hills Energy magnet will be on their vehicle. For this project, we’re contracting with approved utility technicians from Utilitech LLC.

How will my natural gas meter reading be impacted?

There won’t be any impact to how Black Hills Energy reads your natural gas meter at this time. The equipment change is to ensure that Black Hills Energy continues to be able to obtain your natural gas meter reading timely and accurately without disrupting your day.
