Black Hills Energy Telluride Looping Project

Black Hills Energy will be installing a new 6” steel natural gas pipeline to reinforce the natural gas infrastructure and supply pressure to the town of Telluride, Colorado.

The system that feeds gas to Telluride was installed in the mid to late 80’s.  Since then, there has been tremendous growth. In order to ensure that we are able to reliably meet the current and future needs of the town, we need to increase the capacity of the natural gas delivery system.

Construction starts April 6 and is projected to be complete mid to late August. As with any project, a number of factors have the potential to impact the timeline, but we are committed to doing all that we can to complete the project within the projected forecast. Work will be suspended during the Telluride Bluegrass festival so that construction does not interfere with the event. Work hours will follow town code: Monday through Friday, with crews moving in and out between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., performing light construction at 8 a.m., and heavy construction such as welding only occurring between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.

The planned route for the pipeline will travel from Cornet Creek  and Colorado Avenue west along the bike path paralleling Colorado Ave, north along Cornet Street, east along Columbia Avenue, south along N Willow St, and then east along Pacific Avenue to tie-in to the near the Post Office.

There will be some impacts to traffic and parking, but we will be coordinating with the town every step of the way to insure impacts are as minimally disruptive as possible. While some street and intersections closures will occur, residents who live along the route will be able to access their homes throughout the project.
