Caring for our Wyoming communities

Black Hills Energy employees speaking to local first responders about wildfire safety

At Black Hills Energy, our commitment goes beyond delivering safe, reliable energy. We’re proud to invest in the people, places and programs that make our communities stronger. From volunteerism and local partnerships to infrastructure and safety initiatives, everything we do is rooted in one goal: powering the Wyoming communities we call home.

We believe strong communities create a brighter future. Each year, we contribute significant dollars to local programs, nonprofits and educational initiatives that make a difference in the lives of Wyomingites. These investments support regional economic growth, provide essential resources and help our neighbors thrive.

Wyoming highlights:

  • $39,000 pledged to United Way
  • $79,000 raised to help families with energy assistance
  • Over 2,100 hours volunteered to lend a helping hand
  • $123.7 million direct economic impact in 2025

Volunteerism

Our employees live and work in the communities we serve — and they’re passionate about giving back. Through volunteer projects, charity drives and local events, our teams dedicate hundreds of hours each year to making a difference right here at home.

Safety and preparedness

Safety is at the heart of everything we do. We partner with first responders, schools and community organizations to promote emergency preparedness and energy safety. This includes training almost 1,500 first responders and excavators on emergency response and safe digging practices, and education campaigns about the importance of calling or clicking 811 before doing any kind of digging.

From wildfire mitigation to storm readiness, we’re here to keep our communities safe and informed.

Key initiatives:

  • Wildfire mitigation and vegetation management: we are committed to strengthening relationships with our local Emergency Management and Public Safety partners, providing electrical safety training for first responders and answering the call when residential and commercial fires occur.
  • Energy assistance programs: Whether you're looking for ways to lower your energy bills or need financial help, we’re here to help. Explore our range of energy assistance programs and resources designed to help you stay safe, be prepared and save energy.
