Frequently asked questions

Where in Wyoming does Black Hills Energy provide energy?

We proudly serve communities across Wyoming, delivering energy to almost 181,000 customers — supporting homes, businesses and essential services with safe, reliable energy. We deliver natural gas throughout the state and electricity to communities on the eastern side of the state through our two electric utilities: Cheyenne Light, Fuel and Power, and Black Hills Power Wyoming.

Why does Wyoming’s energy system need upgrades?

Upgrades help strengthen grid reliability, enhance safety and prepare the system to meet Wyoming’s growing energy needs — today and in the future.

Why is Black Hills Energy requesting a rate update in northeastern Wyoming?

Our most important responsibility is providing safe, reliable energy to our customers and communities. We are requesting a rate update on behalf of customers served by our Black Hills Power Wyoming utility. A rate update is needed to adjust for the rising costs to operate and maintain our electric system since rates were last set in 2014. It will also allow us to recover critical system costs already incurred to support the safe and reliable delivery of electricity to power customer homes and businesses. Learn more about what that means for you.

How do energy system upgrades benefit Wyoming communities?

Investing in our systems helps:

  • Improve reliability during everyday use
  • Enhance safety for our customers and crews
  • Prepare our systems for changing conditions
  • Support growing communities and local economies

These investments help us power the moments people depend on every day.

How does Black Hills Energy support local Wyoming communities?

Serving Wyoming means more than providing safe, reliable energy. These are our homes, our communities and our neighbors. It’s important to support our communities through local partnerships, community programs and community outreach. We provide programs to help those that need a little extra help, volunteer our time to lend a helping hand and support organizations like United Way.

Caring for our communities is part of our commitment to caring for Wyoming.
