Refrigerators still look much the same from the outside as they did 10 to 15 years ago. What you can't see, however, is that there have been some dramatic energy-efficiency improvements inside today's refrigerators. More efficient compressors and better insulation greatly improved your fridge’s energy efficiency.

Energy Star-qualified refrigerators are 15 percent more efficient than non-qualified models and are 20 percent more efficient than models that simply meet the federal minimum standard for energy efficiency.
