Kansas deserves safe and reliable natural gas.

That’s why we’ve been updating natural gas lines throughout the state to deliver resilient service to our customers.

We’ve completed our rate review request to recover integrity, reliability and growth investments for natural gas service for our approximately 117,000 customers in 66 communities in Kansas. The result is a net-zero base rate revenue impact to residential customers, after offsetting the base rate revenue increase by the GSRS revenue currently being collected. It also includes annual refunds to customers related to recent federal and state tax reform of approximately $3.3 million each year for three years.

Prior to the rate review, we had not sought a base rate increase in Kansas in seven years and have since invested $130 million in our infrastructure across the state. These investments include replacing, installing and maintaining thousands of miles of natural gas pipelines in the state – critical infrastructure for the safe and reliable delivery of natural gas to our customers’ homes and businesses that supports the growth needs of local communities.

The new rates were implemented on January 1, 2022. Customers who would like information about managing their energy bills should call us at 888-890-5554 or visit blackhillsenergy.com/assistance.

Other key rate information includes:

  • Small Volume Interruptible customers will be moved to the Small Volume Firm rate schedule.
  • All Large Volume Transportation customers are required to have telemetry equipment and will be responsible for the costs of acquiring and installing the telemetry equipment at the delivery point. For existing customers, Black Hills plans to move all telemetered customers to telemetry service within one year of the effective date of new rates.
  • All Aggregators with non-telemetered Aggregation Delivery Pools will be subject to the Non-Telemetered Daily Balancing Service Charge of $0.0090 per therm per month. This charge has previously only been applicable to Marketers with non-telemetered customers in aggregated pools downstream of daily balanced pipelines.
  • Monthly cash out charges will reflect the highest, lowest, or average daily price rather than the highest or lowest average weekly price on the effective date of new rates.
