Tree planting events to take place in South Dakota and Wyoming

Planting a tree is a great way to leave a leafy legacy, positively impact the environment and reduce energy costs.

The media is invited to attend three tree planting events to celebrate Arbor Day. Two of the events will be held in South Dakota, in Rapid City and Hot Springs. The third event will be held in Newcastle, Wyoming. The dates and locations are:

  • Rapid City: Friday, April 29 at 10:30 a.m. located at the Historic McGillicuddy House, 727 South Street.
  • Hot Springs: Saturday, April 30 at 12:00 p.m. located at the Mueller Center, 801 S. 6th Street.
  • Newcastle: Friday, April 29 at 1:30 p.m. located at Playground Park, 97 Stampede Street.

We are partnering with the Historic McGillicuddy House in Rapid City to plant 3 trees at their 727 South Street location for Arbor Day. This effort is funded by Black Hills Energy’s corporate foundation to celebrate their 20th anniversary of making legacy gifts across the eight states served by the natural gas and electric utility.

Last week, we gave away more than 800 free yard trees (including 250 in South Dakota) on Earth Day Friday, April 22. The saplings will be delivered directly to customers for spring planting from May through early June and are small enough that they can be planted by an individual.
