Appreciating our essential workers in Iowa
Appreciating our essential workers

Lynn Porter, Iowa Community Affairs Manager

During the Covid-19 pandemic, business as normal certainly changed for many employees as they began to work from home. Employees in other parts of the business, such as field operations, continued to report to the office and perform essential work while learning to navigate the pandemic waters.

Iowa operations recently acknowledged the teams of people who continued to report to the office daily to maintain the system and respond to emergency calls. Managers and supervisors delivered “We Appreciate Our Essential Utility Workers” yard signs to the homes of these employees to display in their yards.

“Safely providing service to our customers has always been a focus for us. Doing so in the midst of a pandemic has created a new twist,”

“Safely providing service to our customers has always been a focus for us. Doing so in the midst of a pandemic has created a new twist,” said Pete Hamell, Director of Operations. “The team has truly defined agility during this time, helping us to define the behaviors necessary to keep our coworkers and our customers safe. We recognize the team’s efforts and wanted to share with the greater community our appreciation.”

All across our Iowa operations footprint our Black Hills Energy essential utility workers were recognized with a yard sign personally delivered to their home by supervisors and managers.
