New playgrounds added to Johnson Lake in Nebraska
playground

Johnson Lake, a recreation reservoir in the heart of Nebraska, has long been a favorite spot for summer picnics, water sports and fishing. Over the past several years, improvements and upgrades have helped shift the image of Johnson Lake as a seasonal getaway to one of a family-friendly community that people can call home year-round.

New water and sewer systems have been added and there has been a push to have natural gas access throughout each of the lake’s bays and coves. There have also been quality-of-life improvements such as a paved 11-mile hiking and biking trail that circles the lake and meanders through each neighborhood.

The community’s latest project is providing safe places for kids to play. Two playgrounds are being installed on opposite sides of the lake thanks to private donations. The Nebraska Black Hills Energy team is excited to help make the playgrounds a reality by donating $10,000 through a Black Hills Corp. Foundation grant. Timing of the grant lined up with the Lexington, Nebraska, Community Foundation’s “Give Big Lexington” campaign, which meant Black Hills Energy’s donation will be matched by a local fund to make it even more impactful.

Congratulations to all involved!
