Black Hills Energy Commits nearly $600,000 to Energy Assistance

Rapid City, SD– Aug. 3, 2020 – After assessing the growing needs for energy assistance in communities across an eight-state footprint, Black Hills Energy announced the donation of an additional $223,500 from its corporate foundation to assist families in need across its service area. With this announcement, support in 2020 for its 25 energy assistance partners in a program called Black Hills Cares totals nearly $600,000 so far. This includes support by Black Hills Energy customers and employees, as well as the charitable arm of Black Hills Energy, Black Hills Corporation Foundation,  and their electric and gas subsidiaries across Arkansas, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wyoming.

In South Dakota, nearly $90,000 has been distributed to eight Black Hills Cares partners located throughout the Black Hills and Weston County, Wyoming, to assist families experiencing financial hardship.  Black Hills Cares partners supporting families in need in the Black Hills area include:

  • Christian Life Center, Compassion Cupboard (Belle Fourche)
  • Custer Ministerial Association
  • Church Response (Rapid City)
  • Hot Springs Ministerial Assoc.
  • Newcastle Ministerial Assoc.
  • Salvation Army of the Black Hills (Rapid City and Spearfish)
  • Sturgis Alliance of Churches
  • Newell - Vale - Nisland Ministerial Assoc.
